The composition of Vitagel® Gelatin Hydrolysates is very similar to that of human cartilage. The body’s joints are composed of a layer of cartilage consisting primarily of fibrillar collagen (known as type II collagen), a protein substance. A sufficient supply of this protein must be regularly available to the body in order for cartilage metabolism to function optimally. If too little collagen is available, regeneration of the collagen layer in the joints is impaired. Eventually this may cause permanent damage to the collagen layer, a typical symptom of arthritis.

The cartilage in the joints may also suffer wear and tear from overuse associated with athletic activity, heavy labour or obesity.

Regular intake of collage, e.g. in the form of Vitagel® Gelatin Hydrolysates health drink, provides the body with an adequate supply of collagen for resorption and thus helps keep the body’s collagen metabolism in balance. 10 g of Vitagel® gelatin hydrolysate per day is recommended.
